Move upmarket without becoming a machine

Hey, I’m Sarah

I photographed weddings on the French Riviera for ten years. I started at the bottom of the market with one wedding booked my first season, no network, no one to introduce me. I finished at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, the Ritz, private villas in Puglia, with work published in prestigious magazines such as Vogue.

Nobody opened those doors for me. I built a website and an image so consistent that people found me and wanted me specifically. That site still brings me enquiries today, almost a year after I stopped shooting.

I stopped in October 2025, for health reasons. Which means I can now write about this work the way I could never write about it while I was still in it.

This is where I explain how a photographer gets chosen by a market higher than her own. Without a network. Without turning into a studio she no longer recognises.

That single season was enough to show me why I never went back. The moment that kept repeating itself, almost identically every time, happened around eleven at…

Do you really need a second shooter?

The person I had trained as my second shooter, my best friend, called me a few months before a wedding. Something had come up on her end, and she asked whether someone else could take her place. I said yes. I found a replacement, sent her my galleries so she could see my style and…
