A complete method

Shooting a luxury wedding solo

The problem nobody names

You can shoot a wedding alone. Plenty of photographers do. What you cannot do alone is be in two places at once, so every hour of the day becomes a series of small sacrifices you never agreed to.

The bride’s preparation runs late, so you lose the detail shots. The ceremony is in a chapel with no room to move, so you get one angle instead of three. Cocktail hour is set at the exact time the light turns, and nobody asked you.

None of this is a technical problem. It is a problem of what was agreed, and when.

What I did about it

I photographed weddings on the French Riviera for ten years, most of them alone, and most of them at the upper end of the market. Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild, the Ritz, private villas, masserias in Puglia.

I stopped fixing these problems on the day and started removing them before the wedding. Not by asking for favours, and not by explaining what I need as a photographer. By showing the couple what they lose if the day is built without their photographer in the room.

That shift is the whole book.

What is inside

Part One is a negotiation framework in eighteen blocks, covering each moment of a wedding day. For each one: what usually goes wrong, what to ask for, when to ask for it, and how to argue it from the couple’s point of view rather than your own.

Part Two is the master timeline method. You build the day backwards from sunset, not forwards from breakfast, which changes almost every decision that follows. Six diagrams walk through the construction.

Who it is for

Photographers already shooting weddings who work alone, or who want to stop paying for a second shooter without losing what a second shooter brings.

It assumes you know how to use your camera. Nothing here is about settings or editing.

Who it is not for

If you have never shot a wedding, start with the free checklist instead. This book will make more sense once you have felt the problems it solves.
